1 Timothy 6:1-2
(1 Timothy 6:1-2)
Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their
own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not
blasphemed. And they that have believing
masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do
them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit.
These things teach and exhort.
If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome
words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is
according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing,
but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife,
railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of
corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from
such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment
is great gain. For we brought nothing into
this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And
having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich
fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts,
which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the
root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the
faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God,
flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love,
patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith,
lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a
good profession before many witnesses. I give thee charge in the sight
of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius
Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without
spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his
times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings,
and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality,
dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen,
nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. Charge
them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in
uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute,
willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation
against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. O Timothy,
keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings,
and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have
erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen. 』
At the time, there
were people in the church who caused contention.『If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome
words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and
to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He
is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words,
whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse
disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that
gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. 』 Some taught lessons other than the gospel. They brought in Gnosticism,
Jewish Judaism, and Mysticism and damaged the gospel. They pride themselves in
arguing and arguing. They were self-assertive and self-assertive. They caused
speculation, conflict, slander, and contention. There was no true Jesus in
their hearts. Their interest was only in their own interests.
『But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we
brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 』
Solomon said,
"Remember before you return to God." What should you remember? Life
is short, and you stand at the threshold of death. God gave King Solomon
tremendous wisdom, and Solomon lived a luxurious life, but realized that life
itself was in vain. Moses in Psalm 90:4-5『For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and
as a watch in the night. Thou carriest them away as with
a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth
up. 』 Even in verse 10『The days of our years are
threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years,
yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly
away. 』
The Apostle Paul was
not in good health, he had no wife, no children, no home. There were no assets
saved, no guarantees in the future. However, he was self-sufficient. In
Philippians 4:11-13『Not that I
speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am,
therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased,
and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to
be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do
all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. 』 Saints must return to the kingdom of God one day. Saints are those who
take off the "body of the flesh." The purpose in this world is to
spread the word of God. If you realize this, you will be able to understand
what Paul is saying.
『But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a
snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction
and perdition. 』 If a person becomes
obsessed with greed, he falls into temptation, snare, and greed. In Joshua
chapter 7, during the Battle of Aiseong, Achan hid the beautiful coat of Mount
Sinar, two hundred shekels of silver, and one gold sheaf of fifty shekels
(Joshua 7:21). He was put into Satan's temptation because of material greed.
Because of its foolish and harmful greed, Israel was defeated in the Battle of
Ai Sung. 36 Israeli soldiers lost their lives. Later, Achan's sin is revealed,
and he dies under divine discipline (Jos 7:25). Not only Agan, but all of his
sons, daughters, cows, donkeys and tents, belonging to him, are killed and
burned. Judas Iscariot, who was blind in his thirties, sold Jesus. However, he
hung himself (Matthew 27:5, Acts 1:18).
『For the love of money is the root of all evil: which
while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced
themselves through with many sorrows. 』 No one is free of money. Because, you need money to live in this world.
In Matthew 19:16, when a man (a rich young man) came to Jesus and asked,
"How can I do good things," Jesus said, "Keep what God
says." Sell the possessions and give them to the poor”,
and the young man was so anxious that he left Jesus anxious. That is why Jesus
is talking about the rich. In Matthew 19:23-25『Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter
into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto
you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a
rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. When his disciples
heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 』
We must be familiar
with the concept of "the rich man" in the Bible. They have nothing
from God, but only from the world. He who loves the things of God will not have
the things of the world. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the
pride of this life are given by the world (Satan). It is the world's richest
man who has much of what Satan gives. When God made human beings, God allowed
humans to plow the ground, sweat, eat and live. But the world is changing and
trading goods that are produced, so they are trying to accumulate money and
have more. The Bible says that man does more than necessary to greed.
The blessing that God
says to give to humans is the divine blessing of heaven. Human beings have left
God, and it is a blessing to realize this through the Word of God. However,
many people say that God is blessed, so they are praying for a lot of material
from this world. The blessing that God gives is not of this world, but of the
kingdom of God. God has made a
covenant with Israel. So, God said that if he keeps the word of God well, he
will bless him or he will discipline him. However, Israel did not obey God's
Word. In Jeremiah 31:31-32『Behold, the
days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Not
according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took
them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt;
which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the
LORD: 』However, Israel is holding onto the broken covenant and asking God to
bless it.
When God said the new covenant, he said, "First, seek his kingdom and
righteousness." So those who enter into a new covenant must remember the
words of Luke 12:29. 『And seek not ye what ye shall
eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. In God 1 John
2:15-16『Love not the world, neither the things that are in the
world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all
that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the
pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 』 These are not good things for God, but good things for yourself. That's
why he says in Hebrews 13:5.『Let your
conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye
have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 』
In Matthew 6:24,
Jesus said, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate
the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the
other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. "The word "serving" is
the Hebrew word "Abad," which sometimes translates to
"cultivate, work."『Abad』means the service of the priest in the temple and the work of the
priest. “Abad” is the work for
eternal life. So, God said, "Don't serve God and riches at the same
time." Since Jesus' death on the cross, the temple is not a building, but
a person in Christ becomes a temple. The Holy Spirit is the temple. Many people
say they make God's work by making a lot of money. So, I connect with the words
that money is needed because missions are needed and churches are built. Is
money first or God's work first? You have to think carefully.
The meaning of love
of money in the Bible is associated with greed. People want to have more money
than they need, so greed arises, so greed becomes evil. In "Loving Money
Is the Root of Evil" Is that they mobilize everything. It is because the
greed is in it. People spend a lot of time on it because they love money, but
will they have a love for God?
『But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight
of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast
professed a good profession before many witnesses. 』 No matter how people in the world live, God's people must be different.
God's people become dead to the world. Those who do not love the world are God's.
In Romans 6:6, 『Knowing this, that our old man
is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth
we should not serve sin. 』The old man is an idol of
greed that wanted to be like God. In Colossians 3:5, "Covetousness is idolatry."『 righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the
good fight of faith,』 Righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness are expressions of God's
holiness. To this end, the Apostle Paul said, “But
thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay
hold on eternal life.
It is to overcome
evil with good fights. In other words, dying with Jesus Christ is the way to
overcome evil. The Bible said, "For this you have been called." Most
people in the world covet material, but the Saints are called to go back in
time. It is to fight this spiritual battle with a sense of pride and a sense of
spiritual pride. The fight of the saints is a fight against Satan. The only way
to win in the fight against Satan is to die with Jesus Christ.
『 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be
not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who
giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be
rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 』 In Luke 12, the foolish rich parable comes. A rich man said that the
harvest was plentiful, and he built a large barn and piled up a lot of grain.『Let's
take a rest, eat, drink and have fun because we have a lot of things to use for
many years. Then God said. "Foolish man, tonight I will find your soul
back, and who will you prepare for?" Riches cannot guarantee our spirit.
We should not put hope in our riches, but God, who makes us enjoy everything,
and God, who is the ruler of matter.『 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation
against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. 』 To take true life is to save the spirit. Jesus came to find the lost
sheep. If the saints realize the will of God, all the saints must also find the
lost sheep.
